She explains us the importance of sensomotoric training for vaulting!

| GERMAN VERSION BELOW |

Who is Jasmin Gipperich?

My name is Jasmin Gipperich and I am originally from Austria. There I was in the same club as the well-known Pas-de-Deux Lindner / Wacha: in the VG Pill in Tirol. Now I live south of Berlin and work there as a lunger and trainer at the Schäferhof.

I actively vaulted myself for 25 years and was able to participate in 12 championships for Austria. With the squad I was even able to take home 3 medals. In addition to these outstanding results, I was also able to achieve some national championship titles as individual, Pas-de-Deux and with the squad and can therefore look back on a very successful vaulting career for me.

What is Jasmin doing today?

Already in school it turned out that vaulting is my passion and I am more interested in the background of the training than other topics. So at some point I decided to study sports, which I was able to successfully complete later. I developed more and more from an athlete to a trainer and so I attended further seminars in the direction of trainer formation, nutrition and also special topics such as fascia training, medical training therapy or massage. I am currently studying to become a sports mental trainer. Also an extremely exciting topic – especially in vaulting!

Sensomotoric training in vaulting

Another area that I came across in my coaching career as the basis of (vaulting) sport is sensomotoric training – a sub-area of coordination. Even as an active athlete, it was clear to me that balance training and coordination training could be important in general as a vaulting athlete. At that time I was not aware of the importance of this extensive training on our performance!

Core stability in general has already established itself as an important training area in most sports and is also known for its importance. However, the fact that there are small muscles near the joints that can only be controlled by our central nervous system – i.e. unconsciously (!) – and that take on the most important function in stabilization is not so common. And that’s where the sensomotoric training mentioned above comes in.

Excursion:
Senso = our senses (see, hear, taste, smell, feel)
Motor skills = movement

The sensomotoric system is thus the interaction of the absorption and processing of stimuli and the resulting movements (Stehle, 2009).

What sounds very scientific here is nothing else like e.g. playing ball with one leg. We do not think: “oh my foot should level to the right … oh now to the left … because otherwise I will fall over …”. No – it happens “automatically” – so hopefully at least :-).

The more such extraordinary stimuli our body gets to know, the better it is prepared for “difficult” situations. So if, for example, I can squat on a pezzi ball and play loose ball while doing it, then I have a pretty good chance of simply standing on a horse galloping calmly.

My magic formula for sensomotoric training is:
Variation + creativity = performance and fun!

Stand on one leg on a shaky surface, close your eyes and then let yourself be pushed by a training partner. You will see, in addition to the great training effect that you will soon feel, you will both laugh at some point, because the feeling between ambition and anger can hardly be endured when you push each other to your limits :).

In my training sessions with my individual athletes – but also when I give courses at other clubs, I incorporate sensomotoric skills into EVERY training session. The implementation is really easy, because it can be wonderfully integrated into the warm-up. Since this training addresses the central nervous system, it has several advantages – but also harbors dangers:

Sensomotoric training prepares your body perfectly for the upcoming physical work, which has a lot to do with coordination in vaulting.

However, coordination training e.g. must not be done AFTER a strenuous training session, otherwise fatigue of the CNS can quickly lead to injuries.

Another advantage of sensomotoric training is that you can easily do it yourself without aids. Of course it is always fun to work with a training partner and maybe it is also fun to try to squat on a pezzi ball.

You can also simply stand on a tightly rolled bath towel at home. Eyes closed. Now make one big, quick circle out of your hip joint with one leg. Not that easy – is it?

This is exactly how I am currently designing my training sessions. Online – via video training! That may not always be optimal – and sometimes I would like to touch my athletes to correct them. But the training actually works very well and the fun doesn’t stop there. Just look for a good training partner, meet online with video and challenge each other with new creative exercises! So the training is always exciting 😉

Train with Jasmin

From my own experience, I know how difficult it can sometimes be to think of whole workouts and to get yourself up and doing them one by one at home. For this reason, I recently started a project that has been buzzing in my head for years and now simply had to start:

Der online training portal for vaulters is a training platform with training videos that is specifically designed for our sport. I love to think about different programs again and again, which I then film and put online with detailed training tips.

If you would like to train with me, just write me a message at: jasmin@perform-your-best.com

Or you would like to train with my videos at home – then simply register in my online training portal for vaulters and look forward to new lessons and topics on a regular basis!

We have also published a workout to improve your balance and leg strength using sensomotoric exercises!

Was macht Jasmin heute?

Exkurs:
Senso = unsere Sinne (sehen, hören, schmecken, riechen, fühlen)
Motorik = Bewegung

Nein – es geschieht „automatisch“ – also hoffentlich zumindest 🙂 .

Jasmin Gipperich from Perform Your Best has been a vaulter and vaulting trainer for 25 years.
