We spoke to Sema Hornberg, who had exactly this problem last year. She tells us how she kept her motivation and is in top shape again!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>| GERMAN VERSION BELOW |<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sema Hornberg from Bavaria has been vaulting in Weicht for almost 16 years:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cMy goals are to be satisfied with myself in what I achieve and stay on track. Become better and work on my weaknesses, but also refine my strengths. Top 10 in Germany would be cool. But the most important thing is to have fun and be happy with yourself.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sema injured herself in a handstand last year and dislocated her elbow, which jumped straight back. She hit the elbow with her knee and bent. At first she competed with the broken arm, e.g. at the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"German Championship 2019 in Alsfeld (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vaultingworld.com\/de\/deutsche-meisterschaften-voltigieren-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\">German Championship 2019 in Alsfeld<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI can&#8217;t recommend that to anyone, so I&#8217;ve made everything a lot worse. In total I had to pause for 5 to 6 months, more like 6. Even now I can&#8217;t do everything I could before. Because of the surgery, which was huge, I also lost a lot of muscle.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, she had excellent treatment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cMy doctor was one of the best elbow surgeons in all of Germany and also a sports doctor. He doesn&#8217;t know much about vaulting, but he is generally a great sports doctor. My physiotherapist works with one of my team and we are all treated there when we have something.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When did Sema start training again?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI started at the start of the new year 2020. I train as much as the body and the doctor&#8217;s agreement allow. You have to believe in yourself and know that things will get better again. For me, the fear of being bad again was the hardest part, but it all comes back. Muscle strength too. You should never stop believing in yourself and your body. If you practice this sport, you have a damned willpower, because nothing knocks you off the track. And then you have to use this strength there, look forward to training, but don&#8217;t rush anything.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can you strengthen yourself mentally so as not to lose motivation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI kept in mind how much fun the sport is. I had a lot of pain before the operation and the idea of working out again with a healthy arm at full strength is the best for me. You have to endure the time in between. I&#8217;m coming back stronger than ever. It&#8217;s a hard time, but I&#8217;ve been looking forward to the day to start again.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In order to bridge the time, I have dealt a lot with choreography and the theory behind all the exercises.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>And of course I was able to train: legs, abs and so on, just not holding my arms.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Such an injury is such a damn short period of time when you look at your vaulting career. At some point you look back on it and you think I did it. You come back stronger than you left. You are completely healthy again and have 100% energy. You have to keep that in mind.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What helped me the best was the idea of gathering energy for motivation and enthusiasm for the attack after the injury.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hope we could motivate you with this article to keep on! At the moment we cannot train as usual, but better times are coming \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>| DEUTSCH |<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die meisten Voltigierer haben sich schon mindestens ein Mal verletzt und konnten f\u00fcr bestimmte Zeit nicht trainieren. Wir haben mit Sema Hornberg gesprochen, die letztes Jahr genau dieses Problem hatte. Sie erz\u00e4hlt uns, wie sie ihre Motivation beibehalten hat und nun wieder topfit ist!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sema Hornberg aus Bayern voltigiert seit fast 16 Jahren in Weicht:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cMeine Ziele sind, mit mir selbst zufrieden sein, in dem was ich erreiche und am Ball bleiben. Besser werden und an meinen Schw\u00e4chen arbeiten, aber auch die St\u00e4rken verfeinern. Top 10 in Deutschland w\u00e4re cool. Aber das Wichtigste ist, Spa\u00df haben und mit sich selbst zufrieden sein.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sema hat sich letztes Jahr bei einem Handstand verletzt und sich den Ellbogen luxiert, welcher aber direkt wieder reingesprungen ist. Sie hat mit ihrem Knie den Ellbogen getroffen und durchgebogen. Zun\u00e4chst ist sie mit dem kaputten Arm noch gestartet, z.B. auf der <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Deutschen Meisterschaft 2019 in Alsfeld: (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vaultingworld.com\/de\/deutsche-meisterschaften-voltigieren-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\">Deutschen Meisterschaft 2019 in Alsfeld:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cDas kann ich keinem empfehlen, damit habe ich alles noch viel schlimmer gemacht. Insgesamt musste ich dann 5 bis 6 Monate pausieren, eher 6. Auch jetzt kann ich noch nicht alles, was ich vorher konnte. Durch die OP, die riesig war, habe ich auch viele Muskeln verloren.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zum Gl\u00fcck hatte sie eine hervorragende Behandlung:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cMein Arzt war einer der besten Ellenbogenchirurgen in ganz Deutschland und zus\u00e4tzlich Sportmediziner. Er kennt sich zwar im Voltigieren nicht aus, aber er ist allgemein ein super Sportarzt. Meine Physiotherapeutin arbeitet mit einer aus meinem Team und dort sind wir alle in Behandlung, wenn wir etwas haben.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wann hat Sema wieder angefangen zu trainieren?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAngefangen habe ich zum Start ins neue Jahr 2020. Ich trainiere so viel, wie es der K\u00f6rper und die Absprachen des Arztes es mir erlauben. Man muss an sich glauben und wissen, dass es wieder besser wird. F\u00fcr mich war die Angst davor, wieder schlecht zu sein, das Schwierigste, aber das kommt alles wieder. Auch die Muskelkraft. Man darf nie aufh\u00f6ren, an sich und seinen K\u00f6rper zu glauben. Wenn man diesen Sport aus\u00fcbt, hat man eine verdammte Willensst\u00e4rke, da haut einen Nichts aus der Bahn. Und diese St\u00e4rke muss man dann da einsetzen, sich aufs Training freuen, aber auch nichts \u00fcberst\u00fcrzen.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wie kann man sich mental st\u00e4rken, um die Motivation nicht zu verlieren?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIch habe mir vor Augen gehalten, wie viel Spa\u00df mir der Sport macht. Ich hatte vor der Operation starke Schmerzen und die Vorstellung, jetzt wieder mit einem gesunden Arm in voller St\u00e4rke zu trainieren, ist f\u00fcr mich das Beste. Die Zeit dazwischen muss man aushalten. Ich komme st\u00e4rker zur\u00fcck als je zuvor. Es ist eine harte Zeit, aber ich habe auf den Tag hingefiebert, wieder anfangen zu k\u00f6nnen.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Um die Zeit zu \u00fcberbr\u00fccken, habe ich mich viel mit Choreographie besch\u00e4ftigt und der Theorie hinter all den \u00dcbungen.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Und nat\u00fcrlich konnte ich trainieren: Beine, Bauch und so weiter, nur halt nicht die Arme.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>So eine Verletzung ist ein so verdammt kleiner Zeitraum, wenn man seine Voltigierkarriere anschaut. Irgendwann schaut man darauf zur\u00fcck und denkt sich, das habe ich auch geschafft. Man kommt st\u00e4rker zur\u00fcck als man gegangen ist. Man ist wieder ganz gesund und hat 100 % Energie. Das muss man sich vor Augen f\u00fchren.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Was mir am besten geholfen hat, war die Vorstellung, Energie zu sammeln f\u00fcr die Motivation und Begeisterung f\u00fcr den Angriff nach der Verletzung.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wir hoffen, wir konnten euch mit diesem Artikel motivieren, durchzuhalten!
