As one of the pioneers in equestrian vaulting in Mexico she is doing a great job promoting our beautiful discipline in Latin America and around the whole world. Read on to learn more about her challenges:<!--more--><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>| SPANISH VERSION BELOW |<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>1. When and how did vaulting start in Mexico?<\/strong> <\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first vaulting club in Mexico opened in Mexico City in 1999. During the following years Mr. Adolfo Leucona and his wife Caro organized several events promoting the sport, among them a FEI Course for trainers held by Fernanda Shaw. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>2. How many vaulting clubs and vaulters do you have in Mexico?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the last years, the sport has grown a lot in Mexico. At the end of 2017 there were 16 vaulting clubs and about 70 vaulters with levels from recreational to canter\/walk.<\/span><\/p>\n Exhibition in Guadalajara by the Vaulting Academy with the horse Merl\u00edn and the lunger Lalo\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>3. What do you do to promote the sport in Mexico? What is your relationship with the national federation?<\/strong> <\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have a program to help educate both coaches and horses in the country, we organize two or three clinics a year in different cities to keep developing the sport. Several clubs make shows and organize festivals to promote vaulting. In 2015 we organized a trip to California with one of the clubs in Guadalajara. I also started working with the Mexican Equestrian Federation in 2013 after vaulting became a recognized sport in the country. I&#8217;m the National Vaulting Director and the contact person for any club willing to practice the sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>4. Please, tell us a bit about yourself, your plans and you journey to the WEG 2018.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I started in 2007 when a friend asked me whether I would like to help her with a dance performance on a horse for a show. From then on I started practicing sporadically and in 2011 I texted Emma Seely and Isabelle Parker from Mt Eden and Woodside in California to visit them for some time to practice vaulting with them. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2013 I participated in a CVI, being the first Mexican in an international vaulting competition. After that, I knew that I could open up the way and be the first Mexican to participate in World Equestrian Games. In 2014 I signed up for gymnastic, dance, crossfit and yoga classes, I built a barrel and I headed out to train in different places. Every trainer I worked with helped me to improve something and I have learned a lot from every single one of them. I stayed a summer in Europe, took classes in Madrid, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.vaultingworld.com\/vaulting-denmark\/\">Denmark<\/a>, Germany, I have been one month is <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.vaultingworld.com\/vaulting-brazil\/\">Brazil<\/a>, another in Peru and every time I could I came back to California to train with MEVC. When I was in Mexico I organized vaulting clinics and invited trainers from the USA to help me train and to give courses for other people who wanted to get to know the sport.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My goal is to keep representing Mexico and to qualify for the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.vaultingworld.com\/facts-world-equestrian-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WEG in Tryon<\/a>, NC. Last year I got the score to go to 3* and during the next months I have planned to compete at the test event in Tryon in early April, at the Pacific Cup CVI in California, in Canada at the end of May and at the Rocky Mountain Cup in Colorado at the end of June.<\/span><\/p>\n Alejandra at the Pacific Cup 2015\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>5. Where do you get your knowledge from? Do you invite judges or trainers from other countries?<\/strong> <\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, at least once a year I organize clinics or courses in different cities in Mexico. Emma Seely and Greta Shryock came twice, we had clinics with Saacha D\u2019Amborossio and Ali Divita. I like to invite trainers with whom I have worked to hold clinics in Mexico and to help me train myself as well as Merl\u00edn (the horse I do vaulting with in Mexico).<\/span><\/p>\n Course for judges in Argentina: Alejandra is also aiming to be a FEI judge!\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>6. What would you need to be able to compete internationally and to develop the discipline in Mexico?<\/strong> <\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Mexico we have 9 vaulting levels: 3 levels in walk, trot\/walk (with the compulsories in walk and freestyle in walk), canter\/walk, basic canter and the international levels 1*, 2* and 3*. Every vaulter can move up the level with an award competition and when getting to the international levels they can start competing at CVIs. One of my goals as the Vaulting Director in the Federation is to help that the next vaulting generation starts competing officially. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>7. Is it difficult to get vaulting material? Where do you buy it?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the moment, it\u2019s complicated to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vaultingworld.com\/de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">buy equipment<\/a> in Mexico. What we have done until now is to order it from other countries, with everything this implies. We have worked with some blacksmiths to make barrels and there are also people making foams and shoes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>8. Do you have national competitions or are you planning to organize them?<\/strong> <\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the last years we have had several local competitions, award events and festivals. In 2017 we organized the first competition open to the whole country and we had 27 vaulters from 4 clubs! We have planned to start a series of national competitions in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n The first competition in Guadalajara\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>9. What are your goals regarding vaulting (personally and for the discipline)?<\/strong> <\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As I mentioned before, one of my main goals for the discipline is to make it grow, support the people starting to compete and helping Mexico to keep participating in CVIs all around the world. Cu\u00e1ndo y c\u00f3mo ha empezado el volteo en M\u00e9xico?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La primera escuela de vaulting en M\u00e9xico se abri\u00f3 en 1999 en la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico. Durante los siguientes a\u00f1os el Sr. Adolfo Leucona y su esposa Caro organizaron varios eventos que impulsaron el deporte, entre ellos un curso FEI para entrenadores impartido por Fernanda Shaw. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><strong>2. Cu\u00e1ntas escuelas de volteo y cu\u00e1ntos volteadores hay en M\u00e9xico?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os ha crecido mucho el deporte en M\u00e9xico. Al cierre del 2017 hab\u00eda 16 escuelas de vaulting y alrededor de 70 vaulters de niveles desde recreacional hasta galope\/paso.<\/span><\/p>\n Exhibici\u00f3n en Guadalajara de Vaulting Academy con el caballo Merl\u00edn y el longuer Lalo\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><strong>3. Qu\u00e9 hac\u00e9is en M\u00e9xico para promocionar el deporte? C\u00f3mo es tu relaci\u00f3n con la federaci\u00f3n nacional?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tenemos un programa para ayudar a educar tanto a entrenadores como caballos en el pa\u00eds, organizamos dos o tres cursos al a\u00f1o en diferentes ciudades para seguir creciendo el deporte. Varios clubs hacen exhibiciones y organizan festivales para dar a conocer el vaulting. En el 2015 organizamos un viaje a California con uno de los clubs de Guadalajara. Yo empec\u00e9 a trabajar con la Federaci\u00f3n Ecuestre Mexicana en el 2013 despu\u00e9s de que logramos que el vaulting fuera un deporte reconocido nacionalmente. Soy la Vocal de Vaulting a nivel nacional y la persona de contacto para cualquier club que quiera practicar el deporte.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>4. Por favor, cu\u00e9ntanos un poco sobre ti, tus planes y tu viaje a los WEG.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yo empec\u00e9 en el 2007 cuando una amiga me pregunt\u00f3 que si me gustar\u00eda ayudarle a hacer una presentaci\u00f3n de un baile arriba de un caballo para una exhibici\u00f3n. A partir de entonces lo empec\u00e9 a practicar espor\u00e1dicamente y en el 2011 les escrib\u00ed a Emma Seely y a Isabelle Parker de Mt Eden y Woodside en California para ir a pasar un tiempo con ellas aprendiendo vaulting. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En el 2013 particip\u00e9 en un CVI, siendo la primera mexicana en una competencia internacional de vaulting. Despu\u00e9s de eso supe que podr\u00eda seguir abriendo el camino y ser la primera mexicana en participar en unos <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.vaultingworld.com\/facts-world-equestrian-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Juegos Ecuestres Mundiales<\/a>. En el 2014 me met\u00ed a clases de gimnasia, baile, crossfit, yoga, hice un barril y me fui a entrenar a diferentes lugares. Cada entrenador con el que he trabajado me ha ayudado a mejorar algo y he aprendido much\u00edsimo de cada uno de ellos. Me fui un verano a Europa, tom\u00e9 cursos en Madrid, Dinamarca, Alemania, \u00a0estuve un mes en Brasil, otro en Per\u00fa y cada vez que pod\u00eda regresaba a California a entrenar con MEVC. Cuando estaba en M\u00e9xico organizaba cl\u00ednicas de vaulting e invitaba entrenadores de EUA para ayudarme a entrenar y dar cursos a otras personas que quisieran aprender el deporte.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mi meta es seguir representando a M\u00e9xico y calificar para los WEG en Tryon, NC. El a\u00f1o pasado consegu\u00ed el puntaje para pasar a 3* y durante los pr\u00f3ximos meses tengo planeado competir en el Test Event en Tryon a principios de abril, en Pacific Cup CVI en California, Canad\u00e1 a finales de mayo y Rocky Mountain Cup a finales de junio en Colorado. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n Alejandra en el Pacific Cup 2015\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>5. De d\u00f3nde sac\u00e1is los conocimientos? Invit\u00e1is a profesores\/entrenadores de otros pa\u00edses?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S\u00ed, m\u00ednimo una vez al a\u00f1o trato de organizar cl\u00ednicas o cursos en diferentes ciudades en M\u00e9xico. Emma Seely y Greta Shryock han ido dos veces, hemos tenido cl\u00ednicas con Saacha D\u2019Amborossio y Ali Divita. Me gusta invitar entrenadores con los que he trabajado para dar cl\u00ednicas en M\u00e9xico y ayudarme a entrenar tanto a mi como a Merl\u00edn (el caballo con el que hago vaulting en M\u00e9xico).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n Curso de jueces en Argentina: Otro objetivo de Alejandra es ser juez FEI!\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>6. Qu\u00e9 necesitar\u00edais para poder competir internacionalmente y para desarrollar la disciplina en M\u00e9xico?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En M\u00e9xico tenemos 9 niveles de vaulting: 3 niveles de Paso, trote\/paso (donde los obligatorios son al trote y la rutina al paso), galope\/paso, galope b\u00e1sico y los niveles internacionales 1*, 2* y 3*. Cada vaulter puede avanzar de nivel con una prueba de medallas y al llegar a los niveles internacionales pueden empezar a competir en CVIs. Una de mis metas como Vocal de Vaulting en la Federaci\u00f3n es ayudar a que la siguiente generaci\u00f3n de vaulting empiece a competir formalmente. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>7. Os resulta dif\u00edcil conseguir material de volteo? D\u00f3nde lo compr\u00e1is?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Es complicado <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vaultingworld.com\/de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conseguir el equipo<\/a> en M\u00e9xico por el momento. Lo que hasta ahora hemos hecho es mandarlo traer de otros pa\u00edses, con todo lo que eso conlleva. Hemos trabajado con algunos herreros para hacer barriles y tambi\u00e9n hay quien hace los protectores de grapas y zapatillas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>8. Ten\u00e9is competiciones nacionales o ten\u00e9is pensado organizarlas?<\/strong> <\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los \u00faltimos dos a\u00f1os hemos tenido varias competencias locales, pruebas de medallas y festivales. En el 2017 organizamos la primera competencia abierta a todo el pa\u00eds y tuvimos 27 vaulters de 4 clubs! Tenemos planeado empezar un circuito de competencias nacionales en el 2019.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n La primera competici\u00f3n en Guadalajara\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>9. Qu\u00e9 son tus objetivos respecto al volteo (personalmente y para el deporte)?<\/strong> <\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Como mencion\u00e9 antes uno de mis principales objetivos con el deporte es crecerlo, apoyar a quienes empiezan a competir y lograr que M\u00e9xico siga participando en CVIs alrededor del mundo.
